the sun shines
mercilessly down
upon the parched and
hungry ground
leaving cracks in
the earth
until the clouds
bleed moisture
and then the heat
becomes a steam bath
of overdone,
breathless air
no longer light and
shiny
rather heavy, blurry
and dark
all the same, there
is no breeze
that can take away
the heat
as it lays upon a
sweaty shoulder
and begs for the
senseless shower
even cold, relief is
for but a minute
and so we sit in the
air conditioning
and raise our
electric bills
