Revolving

revolving round a pillar of smoke
the earth is now devoured and charred
a light streams toward us ever told
and we escape the choking, dying
a new day dawns in perfect harmony
we thrill at how we now escape
the futile darkness of that past, now past
and while we may not know where we headed
we know now that right makes Light
trust that we evolved into justice
trust that we can draw in the Light
by caring for each person, love lives on
by sharing with each person, we save ourselves
by walking together we avoid getting lost
and holding hands, we find the greatness
that our earth can be restored

Whether

whether it’s a bright day or a dark
we can take our fellows’ hand
grasp it tightly and together we can rise
we can overcome adversity
evil talk will have no power over us
we shall walk through treachery
and find ourselves meeting the sunrise
our path shall not cause us to stumble
we shall see into the shadowy corners
and shall see only Light and Love
those who wish that we fall
will be taken into their own trap
and we shall be protected and free

Completely

listen to the wind as it rounds the thicket
it brings news from on high today
the breath, the whisper of the Creator
telling of the time of peace to come
as we suffer the chaos of these times
and our hopes take flight in the breast
to know that this, too, shall pass
rise, rise, turn away from darkness
lift yourselves to embrace the Light
the words, the healing of the Light
where all doubts melt away completely

Numbers

one, two, awaken the world
the stage is set, the curtain rises,
three, four, only the bold can sing
and we join voices to be heard at last
counting the days when freedom rings true
rise up, friends, speak from your hearts
draw your enlightened ones closer
give us a moment to say our last prayers
for we go into the rising sun to be free
we call out the day when no hand must be raised
from brother unto brother or sister
for the moment, we hide behind an image
of the lost and the embattled ones
comes the moment when all are cared for
six, seven, breathe deeply and search
for the protector of our souls
for the lifeline where we are all joined

Busy

every moment filled with purpose
divine order makes it all worthwhile
eyes see only what they’re meant to
ears hear only words of Truth
hands are filling my own needs
doing work that makes the world
a better place, a loving place
where all people are valued and worthy
every moment of my thoughts are filled
with reasons to believe in familial love
each person a light in the cosmos
making our lives a blessing, an honor
giving each person responsibility
for each other to succeed in life

Sad

chillingly, thrillingly, joyful yet sad
the loss of a loved one makes us feel bad
all of the world is twisted, forlorn
how do you know which way’s up when hearts are torn
alright, yes, alright, the worries are gone
but more’s the pity when our day is done
we lost our beloved, like drowning in quicksand
the awful truth is, we miss them at hand
so desperate, our gut-wrenching loss
feels like shivers we can’t toss
so we study their portrait, kept close by
and hope we have peace, with a sigh

Flock

like dark splotches on the green lawn
the flock pecks and runs and pecks the ground
darting here and there, running and bobbing,
a few take flight but others remain
they run at each other, then run away,
always returning to searching the ground
for bits of seeds and worms and wet grass
the ringleader takes to the air
but others take his place to peck some more
as the sun rises and the fog recedes

Fog

fog speaks in whispers
as it curls and swirls
‘round pine trees and houses
across the highway and pond
a perfect blanket of white
that escapes with the rising sun
telling all its secrets
as the last of its feather boa
melts away in the morning light

For California

windchimes chirp in the breeze
overhead the sky begins to roll
the clouds fill with foreboding darkness
rumbles of thunder encourage the rain
slowly, ever slowly, the droplets come
we dance and we chant and the rains come
the drums beat for the healing of the earth
so scorched from months of burning
here it is, the soothing rinse of rain
thank you God for cleansing the land
protect the people, give them safety
but slake the thirst of the mountains
bring new growth, green, strong, vital

Summer81618

the summer heat stops your breath
you’re always wet and sticky
even when the sun is hiding
behind the gray clouds that won’t spit rain
it makes you tired and feeling icky
course in summer there’s so much to do
swimming, water skiing, trail riding, more
your skin gets red and peely
even if you remember your sunscreen
there’s plenty of ouchiness in store
what is there to like about summer?
certainly not the microscopic winged visitors
they make you itch and jump and slap
but you can run and play in beach sand
and play a game of fetch with your critters
summer days are long enough
you can sit around the campfire
roast marshmallows, sing a song
reminisce about the good old days
before time for the sun to retire

Times of Old

like a song we knew in times of old
with words of depth and meaning fair
our worship simple in morning rites
the incense raised to lift our prayer
before the battle could gather its muster
we sharpened our swords, adjusted our armor
and came together in a proud circle
our horses steady, our nerves like steel
our opponent announces his coming with drums
we salute our commander and prepare to die
if, in fact, our sacrifice is needed
but in our hearts we will prevail
helmets clash, swords rattle, arrows fly
and in the end we say farewell
to many of our honored brothers
for all are brothers on the field of battle
yesterday, today, always

Into the Future

steps along a woodland path
stones to pave our heartfelt journey
stirs the mind, the senses, scents
with colors bright and light rays sturdy
now imagination flows as rain filters down
but we don’t run and we don’t hide
we trust, we absorb, we relish the shower
and as the droplets run down the face
we accept the dust as it rolls off, with pleasure
for we are being renewed, revitalized
and momentarily, we accept our new role
our feat of daring without desperation
step lively forward into the future

Waterfall

water flows from steep cliffs
down come the droplets in slow motion
riding on the breezes, plummeting
into the crash in the pool below
white spray jumps violently upward
in a cycle of pounding time and again
until, at last, the water calms
and flows downstream
where the fishermen look for their catch
in the deep calm of the eddies
incredible mist in the air, purified
by the sunshine driving rays upward
in miniature rainbows
making a psychedelic vision
to capture my thoughts and my heart

Above Me

The spirit flows in me and through me
I am like a leaf on the wind
Flying, floating, circling, somersaulting
On the gentlest, most magnanimous breeze
While the sun gifts me with new vision
And I land in a glass-smooth pond of water

Watching all of nature existing above me

Made Foolish

Fire that reaches around corners
It no longer hides from blind eyes
Gathering people under the earth
Where no one has seen or heard
A perfect isolation that dodges us all
Meaning, confused by those who know
Yet they confound their own understanding
Can there be a gift in times such as these
We breathe, but the air is no longer clean
We drink, but poison flows in our streams
We walk, but the earth crumbles beneath us
It is no longer possible to tell friend from foe
No longer can he eat his lunch or do his job
Without fingers pointing at hatred and deceit
The dark wall rises to bankrupt our hearts

Will we be forever made foolish?
