Alert

Soon the winter snows be gone
The better for the older folks
No more slipping, sliding, falls
The sun returns, as we behold
The days return to longer ones
And the earth awakens with green
The flowers poke through the ground
Happy crocus, purple and yellow
Therefore we can declare
The new year of earth’s life cycle
Coming soon and coming fast
The blessings of spring on alert

All About

Days of longer length slide into place
As the winds of warmer weather come
The night lifts its petticoat
And all the sky urges a smile
Soon enough the darkness surrounds us
But it is like a blanket:  comfy, soft
It encourages our dreams to lift off
Both our waking and sleeping ones
And where they will take us depends
Upon the energy we can muster
To usher them to our fondest expectations
Telling the world who we are
And what we are all about

Today

Even in winter the sun shines
Bright with a sky so blue
Not a cloud to be seen
And a breeze that flutters the flag
Your energies surge on this day
Such a flight of life that follows
The immense joy in the heart
And a gift of life is renewed
How the universe knows when you need it
Beyond the balance in our eyes
Combined with the warming of days
How we feel the soaring of Light
As we absorb all the goodness
Life is renewed yet today

Unknown

The unknown creeps into our lives
Like a cat crouching for its prey
And we are not likely to appreciate
The hidden meaning or intention therein
As it winds its way into oblivion
Our eyes are wide open, we trust
That the Light will find its way
As it moves in any direction
Giving warning to the dark recesses
Of the stranger’s mind
Suppose, then, that we call upon our gifts
To be wary of the newness of the unknown
As we reach out for the darkness
And carry its blessings home

Begin Again

The words spoken come forth with anger
In the heart rests the best intentions
Though some will hide their truth inside
Others wear it on their sleeves
And we must tell the difference
As best we can, as best we can
Touching the souls of the electorate
Touching the hearts of each person
Touching the future and pulling it along
As best we know how, as best we know how
Each person must put forth his effort
To discern the truth and what’s best
For all of our fellows, fat and thin
Richer, poorer, life everlasting
And now we need to begin again

Of Winter

Snowflakes, like bits of lace
Parachute from the sky
Ambling gently on a breathless sky
Covering the ground at a slow pace
And I, full of dreams and hopes,
Watch the world become blanketed
In white, once again to sleep
To grace us with rest and comfort
The chill Earth lies beneath
Expecting to become paused
Largely frozen in the stupor
Of winter

Breeze

A gentle breeze blows and the flag ripples
A momentary bluster makes the flag twist
Until it finally turns on itself
Wrapping itself around the flagpole
Writhing as the wind continues
And how do we become aligned
With the mainstream of thought
How do we free our precious banner
With a consensus of desires
Will the most votes come to understand
The majority rules, if it rules
Soon enough, with the pressure of wind
The flag works its way loose, free
A perfect wave in a gentle breeze
Perhaps this will give us hope
That the nation this flag represents
Will come to compromise and free itself
As the world watches and wonders

Clear Eyes

The day’s events play out like a melodrama
He said this, she said that, tempers flare
Altogether too much time worrying
Over politics that no one trusts
Even the weather is treacherous
In these troubling times
We cannot believe the news on TV
We cannot imagine a time when we might
Our very life’s blood waxes and wanes
Like so many cycles of the moon
The ebb and flow of the waters
Amount to many lost homes and havens
What can we count on in our lives
That gives us an ounce of security
And yet we have our doubts on many things
And we aren’t sure we see with clear eyes
