Symphony

As the concertina 2013 pulls back to close
The greatness of 2014 stands ready to play out
A strong, soulful song of harmony and growth
More meaningful to the hearts of people worldwide,
And yet, we know it all comes with work,
The knowing that all good belongs to us
That our prayers receive answers we have sown
And our blessings flow to us as we bless others.
Our intentions for the greater good bring balance:
Rewards, love, wholeness, health, happiness,
All coming to rest quietly on our shoulders
Because we care for others to the best we are able
Because we hope for the expression of love to all
So that the little ones are fed, clothed,
And those who turn their backs shall face The Tower.
I pray for mercy for all of creation, gentle weather,

To make the music of 2014 a grand symphony.

Celebrate!

It is your day!  Shout with joy, laugh, smile,
Reach inside and let every butterfly of emotion
Spread its tender wings to show everyone in your world
That today you are reborn.  Today, love is new.
Today, two become one because you choose to be.
Let the delight overflow like a rush of champagne bubbles.
May it grow with each breath, each shared glance,
No longer shy as in the beginning, but confident,
Because you have earned each other’s trust.
You stand together on the bedrock of commitment
And you fly like the comet of your dreams.
You are no longer alone, but caring for and carrying
The other in your hands, in your heart, in your hopes.

Celebrate!  Your life, your love, your unity.

Tropics

Mist falling from moss-covered cliffs
Into a pool of turquoise etched in sunrays
Like so much liquid marble, but transparent.
The trees keep the falls separated
Like so many wedding veils dancing in bliss
Creating a haze over the rocky basin.
I absorb the sun filtered through trees.
I absorb the brightness of the charged water.
I lean back across a rock and evaporate
Into the warm, moist air, rising into the sky.

To Each His Own

“To each his own,” we speak of opinions
We answer to our beliefs and ethics.
Do we dig into our lives to bring forth
The highlights of our better nature
Or is it the ego which speaks
Condemning, condoning exploitation,
Running hard and fast across our brethren?
Yet those who suffer at the hands of a few
Have gained voices, they speak louder,
And now the Light shines upon them.
Beware, ye who would think cruel thoughts.

Still

The slaughter calls to our dignity

What has our society wrought

That man and woman and child are but targets

For the greater burden of legitimacy

The way we think and walk and talk

It destroys the ego as we shift our shapes

Into something dark and dirty with secrets

That not even our neighbors know

What vain shadow follows our unbelief

And scares the screams of utter woe

Because darkness causes fear to squeeze up

Out of the ground like so much tainted oil

We can’t know the horse-trading in back rooms

Our government deploys to keep a strict balance

We will never see the eroding of our money

Not the lives of our best and brightest youth

For the crowd’s blind understanding

For the pinnacle of the world’s power

For the choice of living versus dying

This is wealth and power and call it what you will

It’s still a crime.

Belief

Yet again I come to thee

To visit truth upon thy stone

Wherein the light of day is brought

And peace of mind comes to one.

For you are promised or was it warned

A day in winter, dark and gray

Or has it passed and thus unknown

With measured steps upon my way.

For dreams and stories yet untold

Were it happiness that bleeds us dry

In fantasy as lifetimes past

The question now, as then, is why?

But I shall wait to hear the call

The silent, unseen, gift to self

Should you come before the final breath

I would not know you, left unfelt.

So come and lift my soul from tears

I challenge you to bring relief

Where tried and true, the feelings bereft

And exhaustion fills belief.

Word Storms

Soft and sweet are the words we should repeat

Hurtful and harsh should be banished to the marsh

A tone tells more than how we feel about ourselves

It tells others, when it’s brutal, that we need to be alone.

Words are not weapons, though we can make them so

Caring, sharing, sparing our feelings as we go

Along our path in life, who needs the extra strife!

Bullies make it bitter, but bubbles make it better.

None is like another, we are all a different shape

So why make fun or insult? Does your mouth need tape?

C’mon, let us all be friends and walk along together

Life is hard enough. Its storms we can weather.

Fidelity

Fidelity like the handshake

Of brother and brother

Where smiles and promises promote goodwill

And each prays for the other’s wellness

Hoping that sunshine will help them grow

Green like the forest that replenishes

Orange like the food for taking flight

And among them all are the bees,

Nurturing, protecting, healing the wounded

Singing their songs to the rising sun,

Playing pleasantly and drinking tea.

Who's To Say

Black and big like a crow

But standing upright and tall

A tuft of feathers form a peak on its head

A meowing sound like no other

It holds its spot on a broad, bare limb

No mind it pays to me or the dogs

It makes no move but to sing its song

A tingle would run down my spine

Were it a different bird

But who’s to say what its message was.
